At the outset I would like to thank the Committee members of the SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology for reposing faith in me and electing me the Treasurer of the society. Being elected to a position of leadership by one’s peers is an honour as well as a challenge and I would love to take this in the most positive manner. It is a privilege and a pleasure to serve as the Treasurer of the society. Throughout my tenure I would work tirelessly to take the society to the highest level.
The idea of SAARC- South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, was conceived in 1970 and the formal charter was signed by the seven countries on 8th December 1985 at Nepal. The eighth country, Afghanistan joined in April, 2007.
SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO) was established in early 1990’s and was actively reorganized in 2008 by Prof. Muhammad Daud Khan from Pakistan and Prof. Rajvardhan Azad from India. Since then, its scientific and administrative meetings are regularly held and rotated in its member countries.
As the Treasurer of the society, my prime objective is to strengthen the corpus of the society so that multiple activities can be done for the welfare of the Society. I will aim to increase the collection of funds during the annual conference so that we can allocate funds for various activities aimed at lifting the academic and scientific standards of the society. Further as advised by Prof Azad, I am taking care of the website of the society and in this direction I have created this new and vibrant website for the members. This website has an E-Educational portal as well and I request you all to send interesting case reports, observations, videos etc for the website.
I welcome you all to the 15th Biennial meeting of SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO) that will be held in 2020 at New Delhi, India. So come and enjoy the ophthalmic & social feast which will leave an imprint on you for years to come.
With best wishes & looking forward to welcome you all.
